We started bright and early at 5pm, leaving Dubreka about 50km from Conakry for the URBOND Annual Conference hosted at the British Embassy. Despite a challenging three-hour journey through heavy traffic, the excitement was high.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the British Ambassador Daniel Shepherd, the First Councillor Mark Kelly and the entire embassy staff. The venue was beautifully set up and we kicked things off with coffee while awaiting our special guests, representatives from the Guinean government, various charities, embassies and some of our incredible beneficiaries.
The conference provided an opportunity to share URBOND’s impact over the past year, present our future plans for child education and build partnerships for upcoming collaborations. It was inspiring to see so many people passionate about education and positive change.
After the conference and a hearty lunch, we headed back to Dubreka to meet with the local authorities to introduce our volunteers and to discuss two of our upcoming events: the new school inauguration and the semi-marathon to raise awareness about child education.
It was a day filled with impact, awareness and hope for the future of children’s education in Guinea.
