URBOND Child Education is proud to celebrate the official launch of the URBOND Basketball Academy, marking an exciting new chapter in our commitment to empowering young people through sport and education.
On the 6th June 2026, the Academy was officially launched following the successful completion of a brand-new multipurpose sports court. Built with an investment of approximately £20,000, the new facility provides children with a safe, high-quality environment where they can play, learn and develop through structured basketball programmes.
The original court, built in 2022, played a vital role in introducing more than 1,000 children to sport. Over time, however, the surface deteriorated and became unsafe for continued use. Rebuilding the court ensures that future generations can continue to benefit from the positive impact of organised sport in a safe and inspiring environment.
The Basketball Academy has been created to support talented young people from underprivileged communities, offering them opportunities both on and off the court. The first intake includes 65 young people across the Under 12 and Under 18 age groups, selected not only for their basketball ability but also for their commitment to building a brighter future through education.
At the heart of the Academy is a simple but powerful belief: basketball and education go hand in hand. Every participant is expected to return to school, remain engaged in their education and strive for academic success while developing their sporting potential.
The Academy will work closely with schools, parents and guardians, community partners and the Guinean Basketball Federation to ensure every young person receives the support, guidance and opportunities they need to succeed.
The need for this initiative is clear. Many young people have left school due to difficult circumstances and limited opportunities. Through the power of sport, URBOND aims to provide a pathway back into education, helping participants build confidence, develop discipline and stay focused on achieving their ambitions.
We are especially grateful to the parents and guardians who have committed to working alongside us, recognising that lasting change is achieved when families, schools and communities come together to support young people.
As the Academy grows, URBOND looks forward to strengthening its partnerships with the Guinea Baseball Federation, Base Academy and Portsmouth Force Basketball Club to create even more opportunities for young people across Guinea.
Our message to every participant at the Academy is simple:
- Education
- Discipline
- Basketball
These three values will guide every aspect of the Academy as we continue our mission to develop confident, resilient and successful young people. Through education, sport and strong community partnerships, we are helping to build brighter futures.
